Mr. Helvarg will be hosting the talk: "Can California Lead the World on Ocean Climate Action?"\n\n\n\nIn his presentation\, author\, journalist\, podcaster\, and Blue Frontier founder David Helvarg offers a unique perspective on changes to California's coast and ocean in the decade since his book The Golden Shore first came out.\n\n\n\nHe will also discuss his next book on kelp and climate. This includes the loss of 95% of northern California's kelp forest\, as well as the documentary Sequoias of the Sea his group is working on.\n\n\n\nMr. Helvarg will further detail how his group helped launch an Ocean Action Climate Plan adapted by the White House. He will reflect on sea otters\, aquaculture\, offshore wind\, and other challenges California now faces. He has written about these topics for the New York Times\, LA Times\, American Indian Magazine\, and others.
