Explore the magic of sunlight, water, and the coastal landscape in this hands-on cyanotype workshop at Doheny State Beach. Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic processes, using sunlight to create deep blue prints that capture shapes, textures, and silhouettes.
We’ll begin with a short walk through Doheny to observe the landscape and gather inspiration from the beach—driftwood, seaweed, shells, plants, and other natural forms. Then we’ll return to our workspace to create both traditional cyanotypes using found objects and experimental prints that play with movement and layering.
As the sun develops your prints, you’ll experience the surprising beauty of this historic process while creating artwork that reflects the spirit of Doheny.
No experience is necessary—this workshop is designed for curiosity, exploration, and creative play.
You’ll Leave With:
-
Several unique cyanotype prints inspired by Doheny
-
A basic understanding of the cyanotype process
-
New ways to observe nature and turn it into art
-
A memorable creative experience by the ocean
All materials included. No experience necessary—just bring your curiosity.
Please bring sunscreen, water, and something comfortable to sit on (blanket or towel). Be prepared to explore, experiment, and enjoy the coastal landscape.
