Dolores is a documentary film about the life of Dolores Huerta, born April 10th 1930, a labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the United Farm Workers union alongside Cesar Chavez, shaping the course of labor history in the United States. A tireless advocate for farm workers’ rights, she was pivotal in securing improved working conditions and fair wages for agricultural laborers. Dolores Huerta’s enduring legacy extends beyond labor activism, encompassing her commitment to social justice, feminism, and grassroots organizing through the Dolores Huerta Foundation. 

She was inducted into the California Hall of Fame in March of 2013. She has received numerous awards, among them The Eleanor Roosevelt Humans Rights Award from President Clinton in l998, Ms. Magazine’s One of the Three Most Important Women of l997, Ladies Home Journal’s 100 Most Important Woman of the 20th Century, The Puffin Foundation’s Award for Creative Citizenship, The Ohtli Award from the Mexican Government, and The Smithsonian Institution – James Smithson Award.

In 2012 President Obama bestowed Dolores with her most prestigious award, The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States. Upon receiving this award Dolores said, “The freedom of association means that people can come together in organization to fight for solutions to the problems they confront in their communities. The great social justice changes in our country have happened when people came together, organized, and took direct action. It is this right that sustains and nurtures our democracy today. The civil rights movement, the labor movement, the women’s movement, and the equality movement for our LGBT brothers and sisters are all manifestations of these rights.”  

The phrase "Sí, se puede"  ("Yes, we can" or "Yes, it can be done"), which became a rallying cry  for the United Farm Workers, was coined by Dolores Huerta during César Chávez's 25-day fast in 1972.    President  Barack Obama adopted the English version "Yes, we can!" first during the  Democratic Party of Illinois primaries leading up to 2004 Illinois  elections to the US Senate, and it became a slogan of his 2008  presidential campaign. 

Dolores is an intimate and inspiring portrait of a passionate champion of the  oppressed and an indomitable woman willing to accept the personal  sacrifices involved in committing one’s life to social change.
